What is CBG Oil?

So, what is CBG oil? Cannabigerol (CBG) is a cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. You may be familiar with THC and CBD, but did you know there are many more cannabinoids and compounds worth learning about in the hemp plant? CBG is certainly one of them.

What is CBG Oil?

There are over 110 cannabinoids that have been found within the cannabis plant. They include THC, CBN, CBC, THC-V, THC-P and many more. All these cannabinoids are somewhat similar in molecular structure, but each cannabinoid has its own set of unique effects. THC will get you high for example, whereas CBD and CBG will not.

CBG may not be as well known as THC or CBD, but it plays an important role in the plant and we expect to see more research conducted on CBG uses. Cannabigerol is considered a minor cannabinoid because it mostly found in trace amounts less than 1%. CBG is produced in the cannabis plant as cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) which then is broken down by enzymes turning the molecule into THCA, CBDA, and CBCA. For this reason, we consider CBG as precursor cannabinoid.

CBG is similar to CBD because it will also not produce any intoxicating effects. CBG shares a lot of similar properties to CBD, but may prove even more effective than CBD with certain specific properties. Non-THC and non-intoxicating cannabinoids like CBG are of great interest to researchers hoping to find opioid alternatives for integrated pain management.

What is CBG Hemp?

CBG hemp is hemp that has ben bred to be dominant in the cannabinoid CBG. Farmers have expressed interest in CBG Hemp as they explore their options for another cash crop. CBG flower and tinctures have also become very popular across the cannabis and hemp retail scene. CBG oil is CBG that has been extracted from the hemp plant.

CBG interacts with the endocannabinoid system to produce a number of effects, some of which are still being researched. But to say CBG is just another cannabinoid is somewhat misleading. That is because CBG plays such an important role in the cannabis plant.

What is CBG Used For?

We know that CBG has an affinity for both CB1 and CB2 receptors. On the other hand, CBD has a low affinity for the CB1 and CB2 receptors but can act as an agonist of these receptors.

Research has shown promising research for:

What is the Difference Between CBD Oil and CBG Oil?

The National Center for Complimentary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) has announced that they intend to research CBG and other minor cannabinoids outside of CBD and THC for pain management purposes.

The research will look into the potential pain relieving properties of minor cannabinoids according to a Press Release From National Institute of Health (NIH)

The Director of the NCCIH, Helene Langevin, M.D., highlighted in a statement that there is an urgent need for an alternative for opiates for long term pain management.

Cannabinoids aren’t the only chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant that are of interest. The research also focuses on studying the underlying mechanisms and analgesic properties of terpenes in addition to cannabinoids. There are more than 120 terpenes that have been found in the cannabis plant. How terpenes interact with cannabinoids to deliver possible analgesic properties is of much importance for advancing research.

National Institute of Health research is important to understanding how cannabinoids work and interact with the human body. Scientists hope to study the potential for non-opioid alternatives for multi-disciplinary pain management.

What is CBG oil? CBG is a very important cannabinoid because it is a precursor to other cannabinoids. We are really excited to see further research into CBG and other cannabinoids and terpenes.
